Inner Mongolia Bayannur Wulanyiligeng 300MW Wind Farm Project

The world largest emission reduction renewable energy project at the moment of registration approved by the Executive Board of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Inner Mongolia Bayannur Wulanyiligeng 300MW Wind Power Project is a newly-erected wind farm project located in Urat Middle Banner, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR), People’ Republic of China (P.R. China or PRC). The proposed project comprises of the installation of 200 wind turbines, capacity of 1 500kW each. The wind turbine of Goldwind 1500 model was recommended by the Feasibility Study Report (FSR) of the proposed project.

With the total installed capacity of 300MW, the proposed project is a) to produce an annual net power generation of 848,053MWh approximately (fully operation) by employment of zero-emission generation technology of wind power, and b) to sell the generated output to North China Power Grid (NCPG), which is dominated by thermal power plants, via the Inner Mongolia Regional Power Grid. Meanwhile, it is c) to contribute climate change mitigation efforts by reducing 894,569tCO2e emission per year under full operation through displacing the electricity from NCPG.

In absence of the proposed project, electricity delivered to NCPG by the proposed project would have been generated by the operation of grid-connected power plants and by the addition of new generation sources. It is defined as baseline scenario which is the same as the scenario existing prior to the start of implementation of the project activity.

The proposed project will contribute to the sustainable development in the following:

  • Economic development: The proposed project will contribute to meeting local electricity demand by increasing power supply, and meanwhile it will help to simulate the growth of the wind power industry in China.
  • Environmental protection: The proposed project, which is located in a power grid dominated by thermal power plants, will not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also mitigate local environmental pollutions (e.g. NOx, SO2, TSP) caused by fossil fuel consumption/burning;
  • Social development: The proposed project also creates 40 permanent positions during the project construction and operation period. This will contribute to reducing poverty of local residences.
